How To Thin Leather

How to thin leather for model horse tack

Thinning leather to make tack is very important if you want in-scale miniatures. The best leather skivers can be expensive, so a short-term fix can be a razor blade! I use razor blades to skive down my leathers strips and lace, and it does rip like all other leather thinning tools, but it’s smooth and not that hard to use!
Razor blades can’t thin down big sheets of leather – only strips ranging from 3 centimetres to 1 centimetre, so they only thin down leather for Schleich-horse scale.
