I made my Schleich pony into Maz!

Hiiii!! The second post of the day, but whatever! More stuff for you to look at! 👀🐴

This morning I made a whole bunch of little things for Willowstream Stable, but my biggest one was turning the Schleich Oldengburg into Maz The Warmblood! It only took a bunch of failed attemps, three rounds of matte sealer spray and many washes of the paintbrush…it actually wasn’t that difficult to make it look like Maz! First I got out some black paint and re-coated Maz’s legs in it. The real-life Maz has black legs, and the Schleich model did too, except one leg had a sock and the others were chipped. So I recoated his legs and touched up his mane and tail with black paint too. Most of it was just covering the chips of love…Paris (Maz’s old name) used to be one of my favourite ponios, which is why he’s quite battered. I also gave him a blaze and pink snip. The original Schleich model had just a white tip on it’s nose, but Maz has a lovely thin blaze which is my favourite decorative feature about him…😋I glossed his nose and eyes, because horses’ eyes and nostrils are usually wet and shiny, and then sprayed him with sealer. The first time the sealer’s atoms split, leaving white speckles all over him, and I FREAKED OUT because I thought I had a brown-and-white spotty appaloosa instead of a clean bay! But Dad showed me how to recoat it, and then I sprayed his legs, back and head, and once it had dried, I sprayed his underbelly and tail. Spraying the horses with sealer (whether it be matte, half-gloss or gloss is really helpful so the horses don’t look flat and boring, and it also seals the paint so it doesn’t just peel off. I also use nail polish top coat to gloss the eyes, because if you use glossy sealer, the whole horse will look like a polished car, but the nail gloss just makes the eyes and nose look glossy not the whole model. In the future I’ll probably fix up his hooves, because they’re chipped and a bit strange-looking, but you can’t tell when he’s standing in the paddock or being ridden. Anyway, I’m super-super happy because now he looks like a REAL Maz – adorable blaze and all!
