The fanciest Schleich saddle…

Heyyy!!

This morning I felt in the crafty Schleich mood, so I decided to make another saddle for the horses! When I was digging through my box of leather offcuts, I found SO MUCH leather straps for halters and bridles, but honestly, I couldn’t really be bothered making all those tiny wire buckles…so I decided to make a saddle instead! I already had the saddleseat, so next I made the saddleflaps. I found this olive green leather and used it for the kneepads and used a needle to mimic stitches in the leather. I’m not sure if you can see it in the pictures, but it is there and it’s such a cool detail! The saddle has a really good position, which I adjusted with bits of thick leather on the underside, and I also added D-rings for a martingale. I thought about making one, but then decided I’d make a saddlestrap. It’s just a thin strip of leather with clips on each side that clip onto the D-Rings so you can hold onto it – sometimes I use one when I ride Maz if we’re doing some faster cantering or I’m not feeling very stable in the saddle that day. The girth looks great too, and I made sure the billets were nice and firm, because they’ve snapped many atime on my other saddles and it’s very irritating. It fits my CollectA horses best, but the stirrups aren’t long enough for the CollectA riders, and I made them for the Schleich riders anyway, so Stella can ride Licorice without either one of them looking ridiculous. Next I’ll have to make a saddlepad, and I’ve got some cool ideas for a jumping one!
