Featherclaws, The Queen’s Heir – Epilogue
Hii! This is the final ‘chapter’ of my first fantasy story. I’m so, so proud of it, and i’m excited to say the full book, with edits ect. will be available to read on my Stories page before next Saturday! Yay! Book two is already in the works…can you guess which tribe it’s about?
Epilogue
In that same moment, kilometers away…
Moonbeams filtered through the canopy, casting the understory in a luminescent white glow. Amongst the thick trees of the enormous dark green mountain sat a bird. She could fly. Her feathers were an ethereal shimmery black, with streaks of deep deep green. Beneath her short, sharp beak sat a curly ball of white fur, and her claws were as sharp as spears, glistening in the moonlight. Below her, in the higher branches of the understory, sat many wooden boxes, perched between branches and filled with dry grass, wingless-twoleg waste and dead leaves from the undergrowth beneath. A raindrop rolled off a leaf, and splashed onto her beak, before rolling down that, and tumbling to the leaves by her claws.
Queen Whitefluff rustled her feathers, and more droplets of glass-clear water dribbled off.
The Kiwi tribe had a new queen. One that was younger than any bird before. Queen Starwatcher had resources. A tribe that adored her. She had everything.
Queen Whitefluff’s own tribe wouldn’t shut up. The Tuis were a flock of cheeping, bossy nuisances. Her flora was all right, but nothing compared to the Wood Rose and native Jasmine on Queen Starwatcher’s mountain, Karioi. Should she make an alliance, even though all the bird tribe’s allies had been decided before the first queens were crowned? Should she break the Bird Law just so she had valuable flora?
Worst of all, was her daughters. All four of them were impossible. Lazy, grumpy, clumsy and stupid. The Tui Queen had a second niggling worry. Who would take her crown, when it was obvious her own daughters weren’t suited for it?
~ The End. ~
BUT WAIT. THE SERIES DOESN’T END HERE. THERE’S A BOOK FOR EVERY TRIBE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF TE IKA A MAUI, THE NORTH ISLAND. FEATHERCLAWS CONTINUES, WITH HEROINES AND HEROS OF IT’S OWN.

Thank you so much for reading this story! It’s the first no-horse book I’ve ever written, and the first fantasy one too! Kiwis have been released on Mount Karioi in Raglan, and although it’s highly unlikely a stoat could become friends with a Kiwi, that’s part of making the story reader-worthy. For a little bit of realisim, Obsidian did end up eating a few more kiwis when Queen Starwatcher wasn’t closely watching her, but later she agreed to a muzzle which she begrudgingly wore when she left the throne-hole.
Again, thank you so much, and I hope you enjoyed it and will enjoy the next story, set in the same fantasy world of Featherclaws!!
