I fixed a Kobo!

This is a bit different from the Sylvanians and horses, but still a new thing I learnt to do and something worth sharing! Over the weekend my dad and I fixed my mum’s Kobo Libra H20 (similar to a kindle, a non-back-lit device you can read on, but it doesn’t effect your brain like a backlit screen). She got a new one, but being the bookworm I am, I really wanted a Kobo to read on. It means I can have an unlimited amount of books and folders in one flat device! (My bookshelf is overflowing!) Kobos are expensive, and we decided to fix the old one by replacing the battery so mum and I could both have one! Here’s what we did: first we googled how to do it. Very important stage. We popped off the back with picks that came with the new battery, and then Dad cut the wires from the old battery connecting to the circut board of the kobo. Then we used twine to pry the very stuck battery off the back of the kobo. Next we used a delicate soldering iron to tinge the ends of the cut wires on both the new battery and wires connecting to the circut board. Dad also said to put some tape over the exposed wires of the negative wires, because if they touched the positive they’d arc and go kablam. Anyway, we tinged the ends with the soldering iron and then dad showed me how to solder the two positive wires together, one from the new battery and one from the kobo. once they were ‘soldered’ together, I put some black shrinking pipe over the new connected wires and used the heat gun to get it to shrink, putting a proctective case over the snipped and then fixed wires. I soldered the negative wires together myself and then we snapped the case onto the back again, put it on charge and it’s hopefully fixed! It needs to be set up again; everything was i’m assuming, wiped, so all the books need to be restored onto it again. It was such a cool process, and way less complicated than I thought it would be! I’d really reccomend getting a Kobo if you decide to get an E-reader, because A it’s not a kindle which is controlled by Amazon, and B, Kobo focuses on the experience of the user and it can work with any Epub documents- even my books! We replaced the battery because it was dying, meaning it barely held any charge at all. So hopefully this new one works! I took some pictures of the process, they may or may not make sense, but eh, something you can read and not understand I guess! πŸ‘

And since we’re talking about books, I might as well tell you what I’m doing for my reading! Our Te Awamutu Library had some reading challenge cards out at the beginning of this month and I decided to do one, just for fun. The challenge has motivated me to read some books I might not have tried and I am seriously enjoying them. These are the new ones I’ve read for my book challenge:

THE MOONSTONE BY WILKIE COLLINS

SHERLOCK HOLMES BY ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE (I’ve just started it but I am enjoying it very much!)

ANIMAL FARM BY GEORGE ORWELL

DADDY LONG LEGS BY JEAN WEBSTER

PRINCE CASPIAN BY C.S LEWIS

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES BY LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY

WONDER BY R.J PALACIO

THE STRAYS OF PARIS BY JANE SMILEY

Currently I’m reading Sherlock Holmes The Scarlet Study and Daddy Longs Legs. Thanks for reading, byeee!!!

omgeee he is soooooooo cute! Expensive, but adoreable! He’s only young though and he’s never been ridden before so you’d have to teach him everything which would involve falling off A LOT πŸ™‚ Still, he’s palomino and gorgeous! I won’t switch my account bc then we’d lose our streak πŸ™‚ I’ve got 4 horses I’ve got my eye on but obviously I wont’ get them but they’re still cute. Mum is helping me make a spreadsheet for my pony so we’re finding at the moment the farrier we’re going to use (even the name, ect!!), the vet, dentist, transport (we’ll probably have to pay to have the pony transported here), tack, feed, grazing! I’m sooo excited! I might get a pony for Christmas! It would be like Issie and The Christmas Pony! I doubt I’ll get one soon because there’s so much to plan and organise, but it’s actually being put into action now! I’m so excited; I always imagine what my future pony will look like. I don’t care about looks or gender, so long as they’re safe, fun and reliable. My goals are: riding bareback, jumping bareback, maybe pony-club if we can afford it, A&P flat classes, hunter jumping, jump 80cm, canter along the beach, trek in the forest up Mount Pirongia…ahh the list goes on!! Eeeeee, that’s amazing. I don’t have to think of so many steeps because we already have a pony. I reeeeeeeeealy want suger so I’m saving 3,000 dollars. Yes about experience i honestly don’t mind falling off and I can’t afford a good beautiful already trained horse so if I want one like him training is the way to go. Im dying for him but saving for him before he sells will be a BIG challenge. Please pray for me. Im determined to get him. Also training him will be a good experience and after wards it will be so rewarding knowing I’ve trained him. Also pony’s that aren’t miniatures are much quicker learners and less stubborn….. once I have saved the amount I’ll have the experience with Goldie. I loooooooooooooooooove him. Do you know what part of New Zealand they live in? Do you think they’d consider lowering the price down to 2,500? I can’t believe you might be getting a pony by Christmas. That’s what I want and I want the pony to be suger. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee πŸ˜ŠπŸ™πŸŽ‰πŸ‡

Wow, ambitious goal! I agree; You’ll learn a lot from Sugar and hopefully not end up in hospital! πŸ™‚ I hope you save up enough and accomplish your dream πŸ™‚ The price says 3000 dollars or near offer, which means close to that so I’m sure they’d be fine with lowering it a little. What I meant by so many steps is there’s more to getting a riding pony than a mini pony. And we’re starting from scratch; we have to find grazing, farrier, vet, dentist, saddle fitter, tack, the pony, transport, ect. Um I just checked and Sugar is in Otago, which is at the bottom of the south island. So he may not be the one…if he’s your dream pony you might find a way though! Here are two ponies I found that would suit you:

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/sports/equestrian/horses-ponies/ponies/listing/6058603248
THey’re both mares but since you’re fine with spicy ponies you should be fine with them; mares are just very sassy. These are the two ponies I’ve got my eye on (I love Nellie, the top listing I shared with you, but transport would be super expensive; like 1000 dollars).
    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/sports/equestrian/horses-ponies/ponies/listing/6063376430
This girl is my FAVOURITE she’s such a gorgeous colour, kind and can jump!
    https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/sports/equestrian/horses-ponies/ponies/listing/5908281920
I also love this boy, he’s got a cool name and looks like a lot of fun. He can be spicy which is perfect; I want a challenge to learn on. He can jump which is great and I can already imagine myself out showing or jumping with both of these ponies. If I got the grey pony her full name is Rainbow Dash so I’d call her Rainbow πŸ™‚ Personally I don’t think Dash is a very nice name for a mare πŸ™‚ She looks a bit like Cameo The Street Pony in my opinion; very kind. Eee I hope we get riding ponies soon and Yana gets Goldie and enjoys him!!!! Can you please share the Facebook pages for pony rehoming with me? Stella

😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒, i loooooved him. Definitely not possible. I looooove the twelve hh mare. Eeeeeee she’s adorable. I’d call her suger! She’s really close to home too. Eeeeeeeeee. I reeeally want her. Thanks. Do you think they’d take 2500 i can afford that maybe……. i reeeeeeeealy want her. How can I earn 3000 dollars realistically. Any ideas.

  • Stella

    Stella

Because the price doesnt have ‘or near offer’ i dont think the sellers are flexible on the price. The 12hh mare is adorable, i agree. I dont know how you could realistically save 3000 dollars in about a week, but she might be relisted if no one buys her. My advice is save up until youve got around 3000 dollars and then look for your dream pony because it will be easier saving up the final dollars. Thats what im doing. 🐴 Stella

  • Stella

    Stella

Also what do you think of the top pony? Shes 2,500 dollars, can jump and i can see you two beaming together after jumping your biggest. The bay nare is lovely, but shes smaller so youd outgrow her in twoish years. 🐎🐴

  • Tess

    Tess

I don’t like the top horses name otherwise she sounds great if it is Nellie, but is it chillie I love that name. I think 2,500 is a much bettter price too. Also is 16 too old? I really like the smaller one but maybe she’s too small also it did say lead reign pony. Do you think the top horse could jump 60cm? If so Im obsesssed! Eeeeeeeeeee. I want her

  • Tess

    Tess

Ps is meri sold? Should I change your horse in pirongia ponies 5 that Im writing to be one of the other ones instead of meri?

  • Stella

    Stella

Meri is sold, yes, and Chilli is the one I really like. You can change Nellie’s name and no 16 is not too old she could definatly keep jumping even at 25 I’m pretty sure! Chilli is one of my favs at the bottom with rainbow dash; he reminds me of Dandy. Yeah Chilli is a gelding. change my pony in pirongia ponies to Chilli if you are going to change him πŸ™‚ Do you like Coco or should I change it to Nellie with a different name? You could always change Nellie’s name in real life to Ellie πŸ™‚ Stella

  • Tess

    Tess

Yes do change perfect ponies coco to Nellie with the name suger. I’ll do chilli for yours. Eeeeee, I really hope I get her. Im praying that someone or somehow I’ll get 2,500 sent to me by the end of the week so I can get her. Also she can graze as her full diet so that I’ll be paying the same amount of hay as I am now. When I looked it up it said lots of horses full diets are grazing. I only pay half the farrier bill so that’s not too bad either. Tess πŸ˜ŠπŸ™

Okay, so the bottom pony, the showjumper, is POA which means Price On Application, meaning the pony will be ridiculously expensive (well over 25,000 dollars) and the top mare is way too young and soooo too big for you and even me, no offense πŸ™‚ I think you’re best off with either nellie or the 12hh bay mare. I’d reccomend getting a small riding pony first so you can learn to ride before moving onto a horse so huge. πŸ™‚ Stella

  • Tess

    Tess

Why is six years old too young? The height is a bit big but I still like her and your right, I would do better with Nellie ‘suger’ why did you think she was better then the 12hh? I did like her a bit better but if she wouldn’t work…. please explain.

  • Tess

    Tess

Mum said i won’t get a horse for another couple of years unless i somehow get sent 2,000 dollars from God 😒😒😒 i need 2,000 dollars or I’ll be stuck with Goldie who never buges for another 2 or 3 years. Im sick of sitting on him for hours without him moving a single inch.

  • stellaslittleworld

    stellaslittleworld

I’m sorry Tess, I know what it’s like to have to wait πŸ˜₯But you don’t have to ride Goldie; he’s still an amazing jumper, and if you and Yana practise leading Goldie you’ll make progress. You can’t give up on him just yet! He’ll never move if you stop trying, and the thing we’ve all got to practise is not giving up. I’m sure Yana could learn to lead Goldie; once he learns you’re not fluffing around he’s much easier to lead. You just need to hold the clip between your fingers and be very firm with him until he chills out. And if you don’t want to continue riding Goldie, there’s still lots you can do; jumping, flatwork, teaching him poles, leading Yana, presenting him ect. You’re both so commited to horses and amazing with them; I’m sure you’ll either get Goldie working or get the pony of your dreams. Do you remember Chessy The Welsh Pony? Amanda wasn’t allowed to tame a wild pony until she’d trained Magic; maybe that’s what the world says you need to do before you can get a big pony. ☺️ You’ll train Goldie, I know, and you’ll get the riding pony of your dreams πŸ™‚ -Stella
