Sylvanian Poetry!

Lately for school (I’m homeschooled fyi) I’ve been writing poems! I find it easy to write them about Sylvanian Families mostly, because it’s a fantasy so you can use lots of interesting words to make things rhyme. I’ve never written poems before, so let me know whether you like these!

THERE was an otter named Badger,
and Bramble was his mate.
They lived in a shack that was crusty and cracked,
and always stayed up late.

They were pirates, bold and bright,
who sailed the sea at night.
They cheekily stole shiny things,
and then vanished out of sight.

A shell, a spoon, a silver glass
and a hat left unpaid.
They cackled as they waddled home,
their treasure tucked away.

That’s my first ever poem about the Sylvanian Clamshells who live in the little shack I made them, and I think it’s pretty good! My next one is even better though, because it features, the one and only, proud mayoress of Sylvania, a-bit-to-full-of-herself, LADY STELLA EREBORN!!!!!!!!! Enjoy 😉

I'M Lady Stella, posh and grand,
the finest Sylvanian in all the land.
My fur shawl is fluffy and my standards are high,
and everyone's annoying, sigh, sigh SIGH.

Those awful otters start at six - banging and
crashing - nasty little tricks!
I fling open the windows and loudly complain,
"Must they be noisy; it's hurting my brain!"

I march through my mansion in a terrible mood,
grumping that everyone is far too rude!
My neighbours wave brightly but I just stare,
because frankly, I don't think they compare.

At a respectful three, Blackthorn comes for tea.
We scoff cheeses and crackers until we're full,
before cackling with glee!
We tut and gossip and sniff with delight, agreeing
that WE are always perfectly right.

Alfonso just sighs and shakes his head,
"another complaint," is all he says.
My eyes turn orange, and with my bread-roller
beside me, I bonk him on the head!

I adjust my silky shawl, because obviously I
know best of all!
So there, now you've met me, Lady Stella,
the gracious queen bee!

A few references:

Lady Stella is the mayoress of Sylvania North; Denmark, which borders the north sea, and they all speak Danish and a bit of German. She has two very rich sisters just like her, the eldest being Lady Shardi Ereborn, her in the middle, and Lady Blackthorn as the youngest. The Clamshell otter shack is right outside Lady Stella’s ensuite, so she gets woken by them every morning because they have to haul their dingy from behind the shack to go fishing by the harbour.

Did you like it? Let me know! All I’ll say is, it was most fun to make 😉

To write a poem, usually I come up with a title, and a list of words I can use that rhyme. Then I make a mock-up (draft) and scribble it out (above) before editing it eg. replacing words, extensions ect. and then writing a finished poem!
